Putting a New Spin on Me Using the I’m Determined One-Pager

Self-awareness is about understanding your individual Strengths, Preferences, Interests, and Needs. The more you know about yourself the better equipped you are with navigating through life. In this session participants will explore the I’m Determined One-Pager, a tool to identify to introduce yourselves to new teachers, employers, case managers and others in your support system. The One-Pager is used to clarify your needs and goals based on your strengths and interests. Join us as we share some interactive activities to help you and your students put their “SPIN” on their One-Pager. (This session will be 90 minutes and encompass breakout sessions 1 and 2)

Finding the Right Resources

Combining the elements of I'm Determined with the need for autonomy, competence, and relatedness provides a framework from which to develop learning environments for self-determination. The elements of I'm Determined are the skills, abilities, and beliefs that when practiced over time lead to an increased sense of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. In seeing the connection between these components, we can begin to see how self-determination is developed and how, as educators, we can provide learning opportunities that increase self-determination. In this session, hear how one school division has embedded I’m Determined into their work with students.

Engaging Ways to Explore Self-Determination

Join us for an engaging, hands-on opportunity to participate in activities that I’m Determined leaders have used in the past with Youth from around the state to explore self-determination.  During this session participants will be given the opportunity to rotate through a set of  hands-on activities  to add to their I’m Determined Toolbox. The activities are examples of how to incorporate practice in the I’m Determined Elements of choice making, problem solving, and decision making.

A Journey in Self-Determination, Experiences Shared (Youth Leader Panel)

Our Youth all have stories. Their voices however are not always heard when making decisions about what they need to be successful in school and the community. Meetings are held, decisions are made, and progress is discussed, but the students may not always be given the opportunity to share their perspectives or encouraged to take an active part in the process of planning for their needs.  In this session, participants will hear from a panel of I’m Determined Youth Leaders as they share their journeys.
