Essential Components of a Structured Literacy Lesson at All 3 Tiers of Instruction

This session highlights instructional tips and strategies teachers can implement at all three Tiers of instruction to increase fluency and automaticity while following a structured literacy lesson plan. Components of a structured literacy lesson such as phonemic awareness, word study for both reading and spelling, and strategies to increase reading fluency will be highlighted with accompanying activities, materials, and resources shared.

This session will cover guidelines for teaching word recognition using Scarborough’s Rope as a foundation. It will connect foundational skills to syllabication and how learning affixes can improve automaticity in recognizing multi-syllable words.
