Heather Fleming

Co-Founder, WY Lit

Certified Structured Literacy Teacher (C-SLT)

Treasurer and Legislative Chair, International Dyslexia Association, Rocky Mountain Branch

Heather Fleming’s first career was as a Managing Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York City. Her literacy journey began when her 3rd-grade son was diagnosed with dyslexia in 2015. Heather now holds a Master’s Degree in Reading Science and a Dyslexia Certificate from Mount St. Joseph University, where she is currently a Reading Science doctoral student. In 2019, after successfully amending Wyoming’s K-3 reading legislation, Heather co-founded WY Lit, a 501(c)(3) that supports teachers and parents of struggling readers. Heather consults nationally at the state, district, and school levels about designing and implementing comprehensive literacy plans.

Heather is originally from Bethesda, Maryland but has called Wyoming home since 2012. On weekends, Heather can be found skiing or hiking with her husband, sons, and their two Portuguese Water Dogs, Shadow, and Roo. More than anything, Heather wants parents of dyslexic children to know that they are not alone.
